Four Peaks LL Baseball & Softball

Week 2

Week Two:

Here is week 2 of our online training for 4 Peaks LL. Week 1 we worked on implementing all Arm Care Drills.

Drill 1: Front Tosses, Front, Side, Across, 90/90 (pitch shoulder blades)
Drill 2: Down Trampolines
Drill 3: Up Trampolines
Drill 4: Reverse Throw 90/90 From Knees
Drill 5: Reverse Throw Torso Rotation
Drill 6: Partner Deceleration Resistance Throws

After our daily warmup of Our arm care program the 2 lb or 1 lb Ball the players will be ready to throw. Please be diligent in the warmup because by the end of the season you will notice the difference of those players who do arm care maintenance and those who do not.

Velocity Drills: We want to implement two drills this week that will help our player increase the muscle memory to throw more strikes and become more consistent.

Weaknesses:
Crossing the Acromial Line: A lot of youth players over rotate their upper body both in throwing and in hitting. The acromial line is the line between your shoulders so if you over rotate you are causing your upper body to rotate foward in a larger degree minimizing your mechanical efficiency.

Firm Front Glove/ Inverted W: This is a very common weakness because most players are very one sided and underdeveloped on their non domininate side. What you can do to fix this is place a 1lb or 2lb in their front glove while they are throwing to help them feel how much they are or are not using their glove hand.

HELPFUL TIP FOR THROWING!!!!!! I would have the players in the field throw towards the partner on the line to minimize players having to run long distances to chase balls.  When we are working on throwing we need to being 4-5 balls right each player so that if they over throw we are not using our time to chase balls. Errors are going to happen and if you want improvement the kids need reps throwing not chasing balls. We need them to make mistakes and learn to make ajustments. They will not make ajustments by punishing them, they will make ajustments by teaching them.

Playing Games for Mastery:

They can play a game of three throws. They are looking for 66% accuracy to the target. The best most effective players in the MLB hit their target 1/3 of the time and the other 1/3 they miss the glove by 6inches. The last 1/3 they miss outside of 6inches. We aren’t asking for perfection. We are asking for improvement and awareness to make adjustments.

DRILL 1: Final Archs
This drill you use on play catch before the game. This will allow the players to work on something instead of going through the motions. I would have the players in the field throw towards the partner on the line to minimize players having to run long distances to chase balls. Each player who is throwing will start on their knees with chest facing their partner. The partner will be squat giving the throwing partner at target to hit with their glove. Thrower will start with both should blades pinched they will rotate back to creat tension in their core and drive with their chest as the key force in the rotation and get across their body after they release the ball.

DRILL 2: 45 Degree Knees

This drill we start with our knees at a 45 degree angle to the catch partner. We will start centered and come back into pinching our shoulder blades. From there we want to have their glove and pitch first which is the trigger of the upper body in the throw, then they are going to drive their chest to their opposite knee. Their butt will go back to make room for the chest in a opposite equal actions.
